Being locked out of your car makes you an easy target for bait-and-switch pricing. A few minutes of checking protects you.
1. Get a total estimate
Ask for the service call fee and the expected total, not just a low starting price.
2. Ask for the business name
If the person answering won't give a business name, call someone else.
3. Check the licence
California locksmiths are licensed by BSIS. Ask for the number.
4. Be wary of drilling
Most car lockouts don't require drilling or replacing a lock. If someone insists, ask why and get the new price first.
5. Ask for an invoice
An itemised invoice with the business details is normal.
6. Know your vehicle details
Year, make, model and VIN help a locksmith quote accurately for a new key. See automotive services and our prices.
