Lots of locksmith ads make big claims. The questions below tell you far more about who you're hiring than any slogan does.
Ask about the price up front
Ask for the service call fee and an estimate range for your specific job before anyone is sent. Be wary of a quote that sounds very low on the phone, then grows on site with no explanation. Our own price list is published so you can compare.
Ask who will do the work
Some locksmith websites, including this one, operate as referral services that pass your job to independent contractors. That's stated in our terms. Ask who will come, whether they're licensed, who issues the invoice, and who stands behind the warranty.
Check licensing
California requires locksmith companies and their employees to be licensed through the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS). You can ask for the licence number and verify it on the BSIS website.
On the day
- Expect to be asked for ID; a careful locksmith checks you live there
- Ask before any drilling; most lockouts don't need it
